Early Years
Within the Early Years (EYFS) curriculum, there are seven areas of learning which are:
● communication and language
● personal, social and emotional development
● physical development
● literacy
● mathematics
● understanding the world
● expressive arts and design
All seven areas are vital in promoting learning, development and keeping children safe. The TEN Academy believes it is paramount that all children deserve the best care and support they need to get the best start in life, and this is achieved by following the EYFS framework. Alongside following the EYFS framework, the 'Development Matters' guidance is used as a further aid for our team to provide the best support and planning of activities for you to achieve your goals.
We want to set you up for the best possible future, regardless of age.
Key Stages 1 and 2
As your child progresses through the different Key Stages, the curriculum changes and there are several compulsory subjects within the national curriculum, which are :
● English
● maths
● science
● design and technology
● history
● geography
● art and design
● music
● physical education (PE), including swimming
● computing
● ancient and modern foreign languages (at key stage 2)
The TEN Academy will support you in any of these subjects to help bridge any gaps and make your learning experience more manageable and fun by breaking down the subject and topics to make it more accessible to your learning style.
Furthermore, there are tests and assessments in key stages 1 and 2.
Key stage 1 tests and assessments
Year 1 phonics screening
This test is in class with a teacher, where your child will read 40 words out loud. This test is to assess whether your child needs extra support in reading and to put the right interventions in place to help. The test is repeated in Year 2 if the results were low in Year 1.
Key stage 1 tests
● English reading
● English grammar, punctuation and spelling
● Maths
Key stage 2 tests
● English reading
● English grammar, punctuation and spelling

These tests last 4 hours in total. The TEN Academy can help prepare your child for these tests by providing support in preparing for tests, learning materials and video call tutoring.
